This book gets too real. Wikipedia says it's believed to be one of the first existential novels. It's about a man writing a self deprecating account of his craven state at the age of forty. He despairs about his human nature, and tries to explain his pathetic behavior on the basis of reason, while also deprecating reason itself, and thereby himself for not being genuine. It's a short book relatively. Give it a read if you're like me and frustrated with yourself. This book might give you the pleasure of having a miserable week.
