You're probably familiar with the SM64 "ABC" (A Button Challenge), from the "Watch Out for Rolling Rocks" video. But it's a much larger thing than that, with similar Challenges for the DS port, Pokémon generation one, DK64, Super Mario Bros (of a bit of a different flavor) and undoubtedly more I don't even know about. They all aim to do the same thing, taking away a normal part of completing the game and using glitches to fill in the gap. My idea here is that this tells us about perseverance and lateral thinking

I'm not sure there's much to talk about on the subject you suggested. Half A presses are an example of lateral thinking and perseverance, but they don't provide a novel way of viewing them. What speed runners had to do to find and invent these tricks is no more complex or difficult than problems I've seen in recreational mathematics.

Half A presses don't provide a novel way of viewing lateral thinking, determination, or perseverance. Speedrunning serves as an example of these things, but it entirely fits within the frameworks already defined; there isn't a need to look beyond the surface level of the idea to fully understand it.
