hey all! There have been some pretty sweet podcasts suggestions in discord, so I wanted to make a centralized place where we can share our faves. And add some of mine to the cache of sweet audio awesome.
Super-mega-faves get a *, but these are all great.
Friendly reminder I'm in 'Merica, so some of these will be focused on the USA; ones that are very focused on it/the election will get an ~. (shoutout to "america being too self-centered to process trump well..? topic)
These are probably very well known but still:
Radiolab.
This American Life has a huge following, some of the shows can feel repetitive now that it's been going so long, but there are also still excellent ones (kinda goes for Radiolab as well)
I've just finished the first season of *Conversations with People who Hate Me (one of many suggestion in Mike's final videos) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Really US-focused :
Sciencey stuff:
*Science Vs.
Transistor
Story Collider
*Outside Podcast (these guys are excellent storytellers)
In-depth reporting:
Embedded
*Reveal
*~Grapple, explores a small, rural, former coal mining town and tries to grapple with its slow collapse and the people struggling there;
*~United States of Anxiety (& sequel, Culture Wars) explores stories of people from all over the political spectrum,
Other things:
*You've Got it all Wrong, an adorable philosophy podcast that feels like talking about thoughts with 3 of your slightly buzzed buddies around your kitchen table but like, slightly smarter. (it's over and I'm very sad)
Reply All, a podcast about the interwebs and how it intersects culture and life and such
The Moth radio hour, fiction and storytelling and stuff
Wikiphilia, which feels like talking about weird wikipedia articles with 3 of your slightly buzzed buddies around your kitchen table
