Alright, so how to say this... I'm going to draft up an idea for the first post here, and then I'll do it. Begining here: This is a refinement on my last thread, which I decied to abandon in order to make a new one. here, I'll sort of go into how we're going to spin an episode out of the rich subjects of Tulpas, Jungean Psychology, and PersonaEDIT: Tulpa Terminology is in this spoiler {Tulpa Terminology} Host: This is the human who had the tulpas. This is both the physical body, and the personality that was present before tulpas were made. They're also the ones that usually present themselves to the world Tulpa/Tupper: the entities themselves. Tupper is a sort of slang name. I'll go more into them later Forcing: the process of a host trying to make a tulpa, by ... Well, a lot of it is knowing what you want them to be, and imagining talking to them and trying to make them themselves Mindscape/Wonderland/Palace: A consistent place that exists mentally. Most tulpas/tulpe live in one. These can be as simple as a white room, or as complicated as a whole city or even more (optimization goes a long way here) Switching: The process where a host and tulpa act in the others place, where the tulpa controls the body, and the host is in the MS (my personal shortening of "Mindscape") Imposition: Where a tulpa appears as a halucination in the real world (note: imposition ends up having hallucinations that are "transparent" that is, you can see what's behind it at the same time as the tulpa) This might be seen as related to the idea of the "Persona", a term for a kind of "mask" people wear to fit into a societal role, which is also a key thing in the Persona series, especially through Social Links in 3 and 4.

Hey everyone! Aight, so we've been talking as a way to mix the tulpa thread with the consciousness one and I feel like we've hit a sweetspot that might get us an episode if this gets sufficiently developed. This is somewhat related to the "what is normal?" thread, as I want to talk about how human cognition is more pliable than most people imagine it to be. Any one of those ideas seem fertile enough that it could lend itself to lots of other videos, but here is how I'm thinking this one goes, more or less: Hook:
"Are you just pretending to be a single person?" Somewhere in here we need to acknowledge how/why this sounds a bit absurd. We should probably throw some definitions and possible positions of what it means to be a person and how that can be affected by what you believe you are (psychology research, probably). I realize that "pretending" might be a strong word to be using in this sort of thing but I think that it's an important factor in how we see and define ourselves. Meat of the episode:
"How consistent are your 'personhood' over time?" How much do your desires, beliefs and your self-perspective change as time goes on? Does that mean that you are more than one people over time or are you just the same person that changes? If your past self had a choice of not becoming your previous self, would it want to? "How that lack of consistency shows itself in other ways that are not over long periods of time?" Few examples/deliberations of how we change depending on the environment/company, what does that mean if we can change this drastically? Are we the person we get to be or are we a bundle of all those possibilities? If the episode is not too bloated by this point I'd like for us to use some examples from fiction too, probably before going into real life stuff. Then we get into how people explore and have been exploring the limits of the self through time. We can go a bit into jungian psychology as far as Persona goes, then go explore the idea of tulpas and what does it mean based on all we've said before that a single body/mind can host more than one person at the same time. It's probably a good idea to start with the origin of the word before getting into modern applications. Wrapping up:
Revisiting the question of what it means to be a person after all of this, jokingly asks if after this video those boundaries are a bit looser than they were some minutes ago. Ask for people to discuss in comments and that sort of thing.
I feel like those three ideas lend themselves quite well to one another, we might even be able to insert a hook for the Pseudonym episode, who knows. What do you guys think?

Oh, here's something else I just thought about on my way from work that might be related to this idea: I've heard somewhere that we feel grief this strongly not only because we've lost that person but also because a part of our personhood can't be expressed anymore. That we store memories of past events and experiences in other people's minds and we share that when we hang out together, which means we also lose those when that person is not available anymore. I'm not entirely sure if this fits or if it's already too much for one episode, but I'm curious to see what the community makes of all of this.

Yeah, I don't think that fits, because it's not really on theme

To expand on my last post, I think that's More about the links between people rather than the links inside people

I'll bite.
Would this be an interesting angle re: You Are Two by CGP Grey?

I'll bite. Would this be an interesting angle re: You Are Two by CGP Grey? We can rope in all kinds of "multiple personality" theories like Id Ego and Super Ego, and waitbutwhy's comics about the characters in your brain, Inside Out, etc. And go on to explain why Tulpas are different. (I don't know that answer yet, but I'd like to find out.) This is a great "Believing Game" type episode. A phenomenon that I've never heard of, and it's topical(ish) Having Romaji consult and/or host lends it great credibly.
