Hello there, fellow Idea Havers
I've got a few things in mind as to what we could do with this forum and our group as a whole, somewhat unrelated to actually creating video content, but I think it's for the best. I'm somewhat new here, and altho I have been active in the discord some of you might not know me at all. This is fine as it's what I'm actually trying to remedy. I introduced myself as a BS in advertising/marketing and while this is true what I'm about to suggest is much more related to my interests in psychology/sociology/rationality, also because I'm kind of lonely for cool friends and you guys seem like a pretty good fit.
I'll get to it in a sec, but first a quick background story: About... 15 years ago (jesus, I'm old) I joined a forum that wasn't really focused on anything like this one is, it was born out of a blog about nerdy-stuff that most of the users didn't even read anymore. It had about ~100 active users, I was a mod there for a year or so before I realize it was just too much of a hassle and other people were willing to fill in. During all that time lots of strong friendships were formed, I still talk to about 15 of those people frequently and some on/off. We did a lot of cool projects, mostly community related but some work/school stuff too.
Now, I was younger back then and I hadn't read nearly as much non-fiction as I do now, so I didn't understand why that community was so successful, why people would help each other like that when they didn't have anything obvious to gain until recently I thought it was just luck. Obviously some of it was, but some of it was because we used the forums not only to develop projects but also to connect as human beings. We shared things we bought, pictures we took in an age before facebook and most importantly our thoughts. By incentivizing us to interact in a more human level the forum admins and mods created something great, and I barely had anything in common with those people to start with.
We, however, share something that already makes us connect with one another in a level I personally have a hard time finding elsewhere: We like to think interesting ideas, even if they are really weird (heck, maybe specially if they're really weird) and we feel like they are not only worth thinking about but also, if you're anything like me, you feel an imperative to do so.
This is great bonding material and we probably share various other interests. I can definitely see how I'd like to hang out with you people even if it was a bit disconnected with the actual project of producing videos, which I also intend to get involved with.
So, here's an idea: What if we turn this cool vid project into an awesome community that is not only glad to but also eager to work with one another? I can promise you that making videos and editing scripts is going to flow much easier if we know each other as complex people instead of just nicks on a screen. It's also going to be much easier to get new users if we have something else that is interesting aside from our video projects.
My actual proposal is creating an offtopic/community section where we can talk about all sorts of things without having to worry about them being video subjects, this way we can just check them out later and pick interesting ideas out of it. Essentially by not focusing as much on having and developing ideas I think we can grow a community that is not only riffle with them but also work together much better because they care and know one another. Which is why this thread is in the FOCUS board.
What do you guys think? Can we pull this out? Should we? I'd love to hear what you think and thanks for reading, also for being this cool
