As mentioned in the other thread, and because I'm a stickler for forum/thread sanitation, I figure we need a place to figure out who can/will do what on this project.
This list isn't set in stone, but going by what the original admin posted, along with my own thoughts, I think we'll generally need three categories of people:
- Writers/researchers. These folks do the bulk of the actual work, by researching, writing, and scripting videos.
- Video editor(s). Says it all on the tin, putting together the actual final videos and probably posting them.
- Faces. What I mean by this is essentially "person who appears on camera". Stand in front of whatever set, act approachable, and generally lend a face/voice to whatever scripts the project churns out.
That last one might arguably be done by way of voice-overs, rather than actually in-person. The reason for doing it as a voice-over (with, presumably, yet more appropriate visuals) would be that it'd be easier to rotate people in and out over time, rather than having to rely on one single presenter in order to do things consistently.
As said before, this isn't all set in stone. Personally I like the idea of a group of voice-only presenters, maybe either one person episode or with episodes written as mock conversations.

Figure it might be useful to have a list of things people are doing right now. Obviously, this is still in flux, and the list is probably incomplete. These are generally only meant as umbrellas for what aspects each person is responsible for.
- Writing (Includes research): Heresanidea, Macecurb.
- Video editing: Griffinx3
- Voiceover: TBD via auditions.
- Social media: Heresanidea, Ngnius.

Good idea, I myself can be part of the writing team by adding what I can to ideas and all that stuff, also I can help with the video editing by providing visual picture like 'frames' that would work like CGP Grey's visual style of frames (just more detailed and professional graphycs) using photoshop. I think narration without a visual recording of the person talking is an easyer thing to get started with, giving us flexebility with who narrates and not having a phsical studio. I can also help with sound design.
anyone else? there was someone who said he did animation right? a narrator is also really needed, even someone quite shitty. if no one is up for it I can do it but I have a slight forgien accent...

I don't have a good camera to record my face, so I'd definitely be in favour of just doing voice overs, especially if you need a narrator. I'm not much of a public speaker, so I can't promise quality (and I'm not sure about my mic quality either), but if we can't find another narrator I'd be happy to do it.

Might be easiest if we do a public audition, or something. Just have everyone who wants a shot at voice-over record a couple lines (same every time, with basic direction), post them up here.

Sounds good to me. I can make a post on the IdeaChannel subreddit asking for applications when I get home, but we'll need to figure out the specifics first (like what lines from what script we want to use). I vote we use something from the Zelda script since we should already be looking at that anyway, but I'm not sure what part of it.
EDIT: We might actually want to post the audition in a more public place instead of just here, since there's only about 3 (4?) of us that will see it here, and I think at least two of you have said you don't want to narrate, so that would mean I might just get the job by default.

I was thinking something more generic, but some lines from the partly-finished script should work.
How about something like...
"Here's an idea."
"What do you guys think?"
"So what makes Zelda, Zelda? Is Zelda at its Zeldiest when Link wears his green hat? Is it all about the dungeons? Is the Master Sword what connects all these stories?" (I like this one because 'Zeldiest' seems like a good test word).
And then maybe one or two more lines. All in one sound file, recorded with as best quality as you can muster.
A thread on the subreddit sounds like a good idea. That way people can vote on them or give feedback pretty easily.

Generic is a pretty good idea too - will mean that we don't just associate ourselves with Zelda and will also mean we can branch out to other topics later without possibly having a bad narrator because they're used to talking about video game stuff (or something).
Seeing as this is going to be basically our first public presence thing, we might want to start making some basic stuff before we do it (ie Youtube Channel, channel artwork, social media accounts (?) ). I'm going to start a different thread about what we need/want with regards to that.
EDIT: Forgot to mention this before: Audio auditions will not only be an audition for the person's voice, but also their microphone quality. There's no way around it really - if you can't understand what the person is saying, or there's too much noise/background noise that'll be heard in a Youtube video, we have to take that into account as well.

That's a fair point about the microphones. Not that it's especially difficult to find a cheap, halfway-decent USB microphone, but I'd rather not have someone using a really terrible mic.

To be fair I'm pretty sure all my microphones that I own are horrible - even my headset mic has been described as horrible by some random person on the Internet. If there's one person with a super amazing voice yet a horrible microphone, I'm sure we can arrange something to fix that.

I'm u/Griffinx3 from reddit (proof in my post there), still willing to be an editor when I'm available.
It's likely nobody has a good setup for backgrounds, so until we choose someone and come up with a plan a basic greenscreen could work. I'm sure there's a clip from Mike's videos that has the plain background, doubt we'd get yelled at for using it. This would mainly be for actual episodes, no need for auditions.

I think the consensus now is to just narrate, because most of us are camera shy. But if you're willing to set that up and record yourself, by all means we'll use it!

I just meant when we find a host that we can greenscreen the background for a while, and that it isn't needed for auditions. Unless we go CGPGrey style it's a lot easier to have someone talking to the camera.

I guess we'll take what we can get. I'll make the audition process for both just audio or audio+visual, and then we'll see if we can get someone to talk to the camera.
We can always switch from narration to talking head later if all else fails.

Well, we could put it to a vote. I was thinking something simple for now, basically just the corner-images covering the entire screen, with voiceover. I'm not entirely opposed to doing one single on-camera presenter, my concern with that is it'd take a bit more to set up.

I volunteer researching stuff from a philosophical perspective (I'm not educated it in, just very interested).
How about just creating scripts separately and allowing anyone willing to use them to present them separately (although I bet mostly it'll be people from around here), so that the scripts become as tools, not bricks? It'll also give the presenter some freedom over the content while saving them the effort of composing most of the script and research efforts behind all that, they'll be able to tailor the script to their style depending on their equipment.
Edit: but they'll miss out on benefits of collaboration that could be possible for even presenting the content- like the ideas proposed above about voicing animations.. I'm not very good with that technical stuff unfortuantely.
